hangingditch wine merchants is an independent wine specialist, ideally situated in Manchester's historic surroundings, next to the Cathedral and Harvey Nichols. The shop opened in July 2008 and is modelled on a 'vinoteca' concept. Wines by the glass are available from a rotating selection or by the bottle for retail price plus a fixed £6 corkage. Locally roasted coffee, speciality teas, bottled beers and soft drinks are also available.
We are passionate about conserving resources and improving the environment and have teamed up with a local not-for-profit enterprise to ensure we recycle as much of our cardboard and glass waste as possible. We use recyclable materials for all our bags, coffee cups and promotional materials. As a small shop we attempt to influence and quiz our suppliers on how both they and us can manage environmental impacts. We are a keen stockists of organic and biodynamic wines.
hangingditch wine merchants is the creation of Ben Stephenson, with his colleague Mark Dent. With over 30 years experience in the wine industry between them, Ben and Mark aim to provide carefully chosen dependable wines alongside attentive and professional advice.
Here at hangingditch wine merchants we aim to take the fear factor out of wine. Come in, relax, select a glass or bottle from our constantly rotating range and if you like it then buy a bottle to take home!
At hangingditch wine merchants we champion esoteric and high quality wines at all price-points. We taste all our wines before they go on the shelf to make sure we never compromise on quality and are constantly searching for the best wines we can find.
Most shops are laid out by country, but to navigate them you have to have extensive knowledge or know what you like. Here each shelf is based on what people come in and ask for; for example, we have a 'Light and Juicy Reds' and a 'Shiraz/Syrah' section alongside a 'Dry and Crisp Whites' shelf.
